Anonymous attack to Stratfor : many credit cards hacked and stolen : Christmas defacement by Anonymous to Stratfor in December 2011 : youtube video news. News is taken by voanews (Public domain) and this is the content: Security firm Stratfor’s website remains closed Tuesday after it was hacked by a group calling itself Anonymous. The computer hackers said in an online message Sunday they stole thousands of e-mail addresses and credit card information from the on-line security firm to donate $1 million to charity. In the online message, Anonymous said the security firm failed to encrypt its clients’ information, making it vulnerable to theft. The security firm has moved its communications to its Facebook page following the online security breach. An announcement was made on the Stratfor Facebook page warning public supporters of the company that they could be targeted by the hacker group. The Anonymous Twitter page announced more hacking efforts in the next week. Stratfor’s clients include the US Defense Department, the Air Force and the Army. Anonymous says it used the stolen information to send cash gifts to various charities including the Red Cross, CARE and Save the Children. It promised to wreak more havoc with information taken from celebrities. Anonymous has taken responsibility for past hacking incidents.

Privacy and Security Implications of RFID Jennifer King [Clinical Research Assistant, Samuelson Law, Technology, and Public Policy Clinic, UC Berkeley] Abstract: While extant for decades in the industrial sector, RFID technology is increasingly being incorporated into everyday products and objects. This growing ubiquity brings with it security and privacy concerns for end users due to implementations that fail to adequately protect personal or identifiable data stored on RF transponders, as well as RFID’s inherently stealthy broadcasting capabilities. In my talk, I will present the initial results of exploratory research where we attempt to elicit user mental models of RFID technology by interviewing users of three existing implementations of consumer-focused RFID technology: RF- enabled credit cards, transit passes, and the US e-Passport. We explore user comprehension of RFID technology generally and these implementations specifically to gain an understanding of how end users conceptualize RFID and its risks.

Fraiche is the yogurt shop where you are most likely to see some of Silicon Valley’s top tech stars. Everytime I go in I see a different VC, or exec from companies like Techcrunch, Facebook, or Apple. Here you meet Patama Gur, founder, and she tells you what’s behind making yogurt, cookies, and coffee for Silicon Valley’s geeks. The block they are on is famous for entrepreneurs, the first BarCamp was held just behind the shop and Gordon Biersch’s first restaurant is next door. She also tells how she gets new customers and a little bit about what role she played in the founding of Blippy, a Silicon Valley startup that asks you to enter your credit cards and share your buying behavior with the public.

www.lockergnome.com Prepaid gift cards that tout themselves as being “just as good as” the full-fledged credit cards that share their logos seem like a great idea. Ideally, they’d be less restrictive than traditional gift certificates that are only good for specific merchants and more classy than plain old cashmoney. Unfortunately, there are quite a few caveats that you may not be aware of that should make you think twice before presenting your loved ones with this very conditional gift option. See amasci.com Scratch-holograms can be made upon CD/DVD cases or other soft plastic using a couple of thumbtacks poked through a stick. Or get fancy and use a professional compass and black-painted polycarbonate plates. Or automate the process with a paperclip stuck into a motorized electric eraser, or a CNC mill with a drag-engraving tool. For lots of hints, see amasci.com Best is to use a good $10 compass, soft plastic that’s slightly greasy, and replace the extremely sharp compass needle with a small finishing nail. Clear plastic works fine, or place some dark paper behind it. Are these genuine holograms? Abrasion holography or “Chatoyant holograms” employ the same physics as white-light or “rainbow” holograms invented by Benton at MIT. Benton holograms reflect light from a point source, and they do not require any interference pattern. This is why a Rainbow Hologram functions the same under any wavelength of illumination. The fringes of Benton holograms can have any spacing: even spacings much wider than wavelengths of light. Said another way: if the holograms on your credit cards are genuine holograms, then also “Scratch-holograms” must be genuine holograms. See amasci.com . www.bwone.com twitter.com The future of credit cards have arrived. Dynamics Inc. the creators of Credit Card 2.0 shows us cards that are not just for the future but are ready for the here and now. Dynamics Inc. CEO and Fonder Jeffery Mullen shows us how the technology is implemented into credit cards. Each card has security features which virtually eliminate credit card theft and fraud. Each is waterproof and more durable that your normal plastic card. There are cards that can hold multiple accounts and you can switch between accounts with a click of a button. There are cards with a high focus on security with a Hidden account card that will only show the account number when you have put in a special code that displays the number on a LCD on the front of the card. The card that is getting the most focus and is currently being used in public testing by Citi Cards is the Redemption card which allows you with a button to change between paying with your account or paying with your reward points. Very amazing technology that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
